Geoff Bartlett

First and foremost, I am passional Queensland rugby league fan who is truly excited to be your Gold Coast Area Manager.  I am looking forward to working with RLGC Board and its stakeholders to implement their strategic priorities over the coming months, seasons and years ahead.  Through focused development of talented players and by providing participation pathways for all from grassroots the elite, rugby league is set to flourish in the area.

Importantly, the societal benefits that come with involvement in a sporting club are essential for a thriving community.  Clubs are the bedrock of any community and whilst they are central in developing the next generation of talent, our clubs must pride themselves on being a safe and inclusive place where everyone is welcome.  Not only do they exist to keep that competitive flame in many of us burning but they serve as a mechanism to maintain connection and belonging.  This notion is what drives me everyday and what excites me about being back in community sport after a stint working within the commonwealth agency, Sport Integrity Australia.

I have recently relocated back to the GC after having spent 6 years in Canberra.  I have worked across a variety of National and State sporting organisations including Tennis Australia, Cricket NSW, Triathlon ACT.  Prior to the entering the sporting world, I was a teacher for 12 years, both here on the Gold Coast and in London.  My love of community sport was born whilst in the classroom. My greatest satisfaction as a teacher came from watching kids achieve things they didn’t ever think they were capable of.   This passion facilitated my move into the community sport space which I am grateful for every day.

Rugby league has always been a massive part of my life.  Whilst my NRL team of choice shall remain a closely guarded secret for the time being, there is no denying my love for the maroons.  Finally, I cannot express how appreciative I am for the opportunity to lead rugby league across the area.  I understand how passionate the community is about the sport so I will work to deliver on the area’s outcomes for each and every club and member.
