James Madden

Governance Chairperson

James is a Queenslander – born in Brisbane and raised just south of the Gold Coast. He is the Managing Director of local law firm, TPIL Lawyers.

James is not known for the one season in which he played for the Tully Tigers, but thankfully he is known for his unwavering commitment to standing up for everyday Queenslanders, bringing years of experience managing thousands of legal cases and focusing on ensuring his clients receive the compensation they deserve. He is not only a skilled lawyer but also a compassionate leader who understands the importance of fostering positive relationships, both within his workplace and the wider community. His approach is centred around empathy, integrity, and collaboration.

With over a decade of experience working with the AFL Canberra, serving on both the Disciplinary Tribunal and the Appeals Board, James has honed his skills in governance and decision-making. In addition to his legal qualifications, James also possesses a degree in Sports Administration, which complements his hands-on experience in running a local women’s Gridiron team during his time in Canberra. However, James’ true sporting love is rugby league, and he is keen to see the growth and success of the sport on the Gold Coast.

Having previously been involved as an administrator and coach in women’s sport, James is particularly focused on the growth and development of female participation in rugby league on the Gold Coast. He believes in creating opportunities for all athletes, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, and helping the sport of rugby league thrive both on and off the field.
